The Miraculous in the world of Miraculous Ladybug are magical jewelry which have the ability to transform their wearers into animal-themed, super-powered beings. This is done with the help of the Kwami: divine, sprite-like beings who embody "abstract" concepts tied to each Miraculous. The plural form of Miraculous may be translated as "Miraculouses" or "Miraculous" (rarely, "Miraculi" in fic).
Canon
At the beginning of the show, we were introduced to 19 Miraculous gems, one representing creation, one representing destruction, and one for each of the traditional Chinese zodiac symbols.
The Miraculous and their associated kwami are as follows:
- Ladybug Miraculous - Tikki
- Black Cat Miraculous - Plagg
- Butterfly Miraculous - Nooroo
- Fox Miraculous - Trixx
- Turtle Miraculous - Wayzz
- Peacock Miraculous - Duusuu
- Bee Miraculous - Pollen
- Ox Miraculous - Stompp
- Tiger Miraculous - Roarr
- Rabit Miraculous - Fluff (kwami)
- Dragon Miraculous - Longg
- Snake Miraculous - Sass
- Horse Miraculous - Kaalki
- Goat Miraculous - Ziggy
- Monkey Miraculous - Xuppu
- Dog Miraculous - Barkk
- Rat Miraculous - Mullo
- Rooster Miraculous - Orikko

In the New York special of Miraculous Ladybug, it was confirmed that there are additional Miraculous boxes scattered across the globe after Ladybugs defeated Feast and restored the previous guardians.

Watching the miraculous ladybug fandom as someone who isn’t part of it is wild because like…there are four different ships that all only involve the same two people, everyone is freaking out because the OTP has confessed their love except it’s already happened 1204 times now and they are either too oblivious or get their minds wiped or some crap, no one can make up their minds about whether chloe is a good person or not, you watch as as it hits the top spot on tumblr trending because it’s the season finale but then a week later it’s trending again because of another episode and you’re confused and then you find out that practically the entire. series. is being released out of order

Oh and now one of the main characters isn’t even a real person. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Ye [1]
Fanon and Theories
Tropes
- Kwami Swap - Canonically, Marinette and Adrien have worn each other's Miraculouses, becoming the heroes Mister Bug and Lady Noire temporarily. In fics where this is permanent, the personalities and associated Love Square crushes tend to get switched as well, with Marinette (Lady Noire) becoming flirty and smooth in costume while Adrien (Mister Bug) takes on a more responsible and steady role. This trope predates the canon occurrences of any kwami swaps.
- Miraculous Side Effects
- Many fics suggest the Cat Miraculous makes Adrien prone to purring, which is often taken advantage of in romance or smut scenes.
- Adrien is often depicted as having catlike behaviors because he has the Cat Miraculous, such as purring, sleeping in sunlight, or blinking as a sign of trust.
- Less frequently, Marinette is depicted as having bug-like traits because she has the Ladybug Miraculous. This may mean she hibernates during winter or simply falls asleep when it's cold, becomes distressed when lights turn on suddenly, or even that she eats bugs.
- Damaged Miraculous can cause the user to fall ill, as depicted by the way Nathalie Sancoeur became sick during season 3 when she wore the damaged Peacock Miraculous. Emilie Agreste, Adrien's mother, was revealed to have used the Peacock Miraculous at the beginning of season 5, and it's often theorized that she fell into a coma because of prolonged use of the Peacock Miraculous.
- New Miraculous Holder
- Giving Miraculouses to characters who don't have them dates back to the beginning of the show's release. At the time, it was common to give Alya the Fox Miraculous, Chloé the Bee Miraculous, and Nino the Turtle Miraculous, all of which were made canon in season 2.
- Giving characters Miraculous they don't use in canon, and are unlikely to ever use, is also common. For example, Juleka Couffaine is often given the Cat Miraculous.
