Reboot: Mindscanner 1 (Fall 1998)

Welcome to the return of the classic, MindScanner. We played around and tried a few new things but came back to this winning formula. Like before, our purpose will be to entertain people. We will strive to keep this a source of fun and entertaining reading for the members of KAG, yet we'll add a little more. This time we will support this entertainment with two other requirements.

Like the three arms of the Komerex . each expanding, yet needing the others to be complete· the MindScanner will work to give you three basic services: fun reading with a more professional look, information about KAG, and a reliable publication schedule. We have listened to what you want and learned a lot about how to give it to yo u. I think you'll be pleased with the new MindScanner. .. with MindScanner 2.

But it's not really new. We will honor the old ways enough to go as far as using the same artwork of the very first MindScanner. The MindScanner which premiered six years ago and help blaze a path for all Klingons to follow . Look close at this classic piece o f art, do yo u not see its meaning?

The strong hands peeling away the veneers of this planet and leaving us with a delicious morsel to eat. MindScanner is the knife, our tool. We use it to eat, to nourish our bodies... our minds. Much like us stripping away the stale mundane bounderies [sic] of the outer shell to leaving us with the rich flavor of fandom. But then again it can just mean some very large person is peeling a withered fruit. You choose, your mind is yours, but we hope you will once again use the MindScanner as a source of enjoyment and education.

This first issue is the KAG issue· dedicated to bring everyone up to speed regarding the operations of KAG. This will be done with a description or comment from every fleet and division in KAG. Oh sure, to some it may not seem like the most fun reading, but it's enlightening and it definitely is educational .

I was one of the fortunate few to be there when K'mpec died. More accurately, Lieutenant Commander Kroesh was there to hear his final words.

I was at one of my first conventions when I met him: K'mpec, Kord, Charles Cooper. A small group of us sat and listened to his stories, including how his death scene was cut from that episode. Then to honor us he performed it. One last time I heard K'mpec speak. This time I heard his whispering words of death and saw his vision of the black fleet. I still remember those words even though it was so long ago.

That day lives with me still, for it is why I am Klingon. Not just for costumes and make up, not just the community services, and not just for the chocolate. It's for the thrill of battle and the glory, excitement, and pride which flows through my veins when I put this together and become a Klingon of KAG.

Thirty one years ago this March the first Klingon was seen. That eventful Star Trek episode unveiled a race of proud warriors worthy to oppose - even defeat - the Federation. From that point on Klingons were recognized. One year ago all Klingons received more than recognition, they were honor with a series of books depicting key events in the past, present, and future of Klingon history. So proud many of us were on this Day of Honor.

Today the forces of KAG number over 3,000 members in several divisions and 150 ships across this planet. We are a strong force but not unified. It is the time for us to coordinate activities and rally around a common event to bring us back together. It is the time to proudly proclaim March as a time for celebration. It is time we celebrate the Day of Honor together.

I invite every ship and division to do one event - ANY activity - during the weekend of March 20, 1998. Let this be a weekend when every ship and every warrior in KAG can say "Yes, I remember that day. I was there. I celebrated the Day of Honor with my brothers and sisters."

For those whom already with plans for that weekend - and I see there are several - then you just need to remind your warriors and all around you that you do this for the Day of Honor. For those of you without ideas, talk to me or other people in KAG. We each have so many wonderful and exciting ideas. And for those who want to do something different and special worthy of a Klingon then here is something to consider.

John Ford, author of several fine Star Trek books including the favorite Final Reflection, has been ridden with health problems. Although his health is stable now, he continues to have problems... and this means money. The John M. Ford Trust... has been established to handle the donations of those wishing to assist this talented human. Here's something to consider for those looking at charity work.
