Mewsies is a Newsies crack meme AU in which, instead of being boys, the newsies are cats. It can also mean OC or IRL cats imagined as newsies.[1] The first clear appearance is a series of edited images by bahorelfeuilly in February 2014.[2] The concept was later reintroduced in an anonymous message to a Tumblr askblog on January 22, 2015.[3] A short-lived ask-mewsies blog was created in October 2017.[4] The use of mewsies as a Newsies tag appeared as early as April 2013, presumably as a typo.[5]
