Canon

Of the four main characters on Merlin, Merlin and Morgana are the two who have magic, an ability which puts them in danger in Camelot. Merlin is aware and in control of his powers from the beginning of the series while Morgana, at first, does not understand her abilities as a seer.

Fandom

Fans had wanted to see these two characters share their secret.

Following 2x12 "The Fires of Idirsholas" episode, some Merlin/Morgana fans considered their ship to be sunk and gave up the pairing, but other new fans were attracted to the darkness of the pairing or the need for reconciliation.
