Melissa Anelli (born December 27, 1979) is an American author, webmistress and entrepreneur. She became famous as the webmistress of The Leaky Cauldron, a fansite devoted to the Harry Potter franchise, wrote Harry, A History, which chronicles the Harry Potter phenomenon, and founded Leaky Con and Mischief Management.
The Leaky Cauldron
Anelli joined the staff of The Leaky Cauldron in 2001 and became the official webmistress in 2004.
PotterCast
The Leaky Cauldron launched its official Harry Potter podcast, PotterCast, on August 22, 2005. Anelli has co-hosted the podcast throughout its entire run, from the very first episode.
LeakyMug Interview
In 2005, Emerson Spartz and Anelli, as representatives of MuggleNet and The Leaky Cauldron respectively, were invited to interview J. K. Rowling at her house immediately after the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. This interview contained the infamous moment where Emerson called Harry/Hermione shippers "delusional" for missing "anvil-sized" hints in the first five books that Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione would become canon instead of Harry/Hermione.
Harry, A History
Anelli used her time in the Harry Potter fandom to publish a fannish history titled Harry, A History: The True Story of a Boy Wizard, His Fans, and Life Inside the Harry Potter Phenomenon, published in 2008.
Mischief Management
In 2008/2009, Anelli founded Mischief Management, LLC and announced the first LeakyCon, a four-day celebration for Harry Potter fandoms, to take place in May 2009. Mischief Management has since expanded to include many events for different fandoms:
- BroadwayCon
- LeakyCon
- Obsessed Fest
- PodcastCon
- Con of Thrones
They also partnered with:
- AlienCon
- HISTORYCon
