A meaningful name is a character name or moniker that carries an overt or hidden significance. It may be intended to convey aspects of the character's personality, history, or origins.
J. K. Rowling famously gave characters in the Harry Potter series such names. For example, the werewolf Remus Lupin's first name references the mythological figures Romulus and Remus, twin co-founders of Rome said to have been reared by a female wolf, while his last name derives from the English adjective lupine, "wolf-like."
