Not long. I was only introduced to fandom in general about a year and a half ago, and I've been unfocusedly flitting about amongst different media (writing, drawing, vidding, meta) and fandoms... I read my first slash ever in SGA not long ago (IIRC, one of the first stories I read was fearless team captain trinityofone's Missionary Position, so I guess it was between seasons 2 and 3), and SGA is the only fandom for which I have written (I think my grand total of stories is up to 1.5 now?) Since then, I've also started writing insanely detailed episode reviews for The Sentinel. I also read Due South, although as far as participation--um. I guess I've done a little art for it?
John and Rodney have a camaraderie I truly enjoy watching--fun, geeky, bickery yet affectionate. Even if it's not romantic on the show, it's a very sweet friendship. I also enjoy the tertiary characters (guess which one I love the most!) and the high proportion of crack episodes. In terms of the fandom, I am constantly blown away by great stories (and vids, and everything else!); it's just so easy to find really amazing work. My favorite thing about fanfic in general is that it can take themes and ideas which are present, but underexplored, in the canon, and really bring them out and look at them from all angles. (Also, there is porn.) SGA fic tends to do this with thoroughness, poignancy, humor, and love. (Also, there is porn.)
