Max/Warren, also known as Grahamfield, is a het pairing in the Life is Strange fandom between Max Caulfield and Warren Graham.
Canon
Max and Warren are students together at Blackwell Academy. They are good friends who bond over a shared love of film, and Warren uses his knowledge of science to help Max at various points in the game. Warren has a rather obvious crush on Max and attempts to ask her out; the player as Max can choose to reciprocate, and enough friendly interactions with Warren will result in the chance to kiss him near the end of the game.
Fandom
Ship wars and minor clashes have historically been common between Grahamfield and Pricefield shippers, as Max can choose to pursue a romance with either Warren or Chloe Price.
Some fans find Warren’s awkward behaviour towards Max when he tries to signal his interest to be uncomfortable and a little off-putting, and comparisons are occasionally made to Warren being a ‘nice guy’ who can’t take a hint. Other fans simply find him awkward but still sweet and likable, and point out how many times he helps Max over the course of the game without an expectation of anything in return.
Common tropes include:
- Mental health and recovery - due to the game’s themes, recovery fics are common across many Life is Strange pairings. Grahamfield fics will often depict Max finding solace in Warren as she processes her trauma from the events of the game.
