Manhua refer to comics originally produced in China with a Chinese-speaking audience in mind, although they have been rapidly increasing in popularity internationally due to the recent influx of digital manhua and manhua translations. Many manhua originate from Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Unlike most comics, manhua can be read both physically and digitally (although digital manhua is growing rapidly and seems more preferred format). Manhua is usually colored, with pages being read like any other western comic- from left to right.
Animated adaptations of manhua are generally known as donghua.
