Summary

With Narcissa's help, Vincent travels to the Land of the Dead to retrieve Catherine, meeting famous historical figures and people from his past along the way. Upon their return, Vincent and Catherine are forced to deal with Diana's love for Vincent, his strong feelings of friendship towards her, and Catherine's Jealousy of the situation. [1]

The Dedication

This book is dedicated to the memory of RYAN WHITE, a courageous boy who fought galiantly [sic] against a devastating disease and the ignorance and prejudice which that disease promoted. Through 5½ years, he continued to show the strength and character that all mankind is capable of achieving, but only a few have the courage to strive for. He was only 13 when his odyssey began, such a young age to be thrust into the spotlight over such a personal issue. But he held fast and catapulted into international prominence the issue of AIDS and its victims.

Ryan White forced us to take a look at ourselves and the way we view those with this disease. He forced us to accept the fact that the victims are people too; people who need our support; people who, once they receive the news that they carry the HIV virus, are doomed, there is no hope. Yet, he fought to the bitter end for the rights and the dignity of those with AIDS.

Ryan White is truly an AMERICAN HERO.

Addressing the Strife in This Fandom

Dear Reader,

I have prided myself as being part of a very high class, intellectual fandom in B&B fandom. To watch it fall to the level of striking union employees, has saddened me greatly.

As a result of the upheaval within the ranks of fandom regarding the 3rd season and the demise of Catherine, I felt that there was a way to bring Catherine back and maintain the characters in the 3rd season. Personally, I was intrigued by those characters and I didn't want to loose them. Consequently, this series of books, LOVEQUEST, will be devoted to the 3rd season, with Catherine brought back in this first volume. BEYOND THE THRESHOLD will continue on with the first 2 seasons.

As a parting thought, I felt it necessary to bring one thing out that has disturbed me very much, that is the trashing of Ron Koslow so mercilessly by so many fans. The hair on the back of my neck stands up when I see the "Damn You Koslow" buttons. How soon they forget. For all of you who have come down so hard on Ron, remember where Vincent came from. He was born from the heart and fertile imagination of Ron Koslow.

If it weren't for Ron Koslow, we would not have this magnificent creature as we know him. He could have been as the ones that have gone before, not as we have come to know and love.

I could never hold any animosity toward Ron Koslow because he provide me with such a beautiful respite from reality each week for 2½ years. I can only be thankful that he had such talent to envision Vincent as he did. As we try to keep the dream alive, we must never loose sight of where Vincent was truly born; Ron Koslow.

Let us all put our petty differences aside and stop all the name calling. Let us again unite in a common effort, to keep the flame of hope and love from dying out. It can only be done through unity. Those that put themselves up as the voice of the many need to realize that they only speak for themselves, the rest need to speak out for themselves as well.

I do not want anyone else claiming they speak for me, I am capable of speaking for myself and will do so. Don't let anyone intimidate you, believe as you will, but don't let the dream die because we let the foundation crumble due to the undermining of it's integrity. Hold fast to what this fandom was formed for, the love and hope Vincent and Catherine provided.

Trying hard to keep the dream alive.

Reactions and Reviews

Brief SND 4th season novel in which Vincent, terminally ill tunnel dweller Madelain, and Mouse go, through Narcissa's help, into the limbo where souls unaware of their deaths reside. They meet, among others, Lincoln, Winslow, Ellie, Paracelsus. Madelain offers her life so Vincent can retrieve Catherine. The final third of the novel recounts Catherine's coming to uneasy terms with Diana, meeting Joe, and making a decision whether or not to move permanently Below. Only the normal number of typos. [2]
