Canon

Spoiler Warning: This article or section may contain spoilers. If this bothers you, proceed with caution.

In canon, Lottie and Nat have a complicated relationship in many ways. In the teenage time-line, Natalie clashes with Lottie many times, frustrated at the direction that Lottie's leadership is taking them, and the idea that the wilderness is somehow orchestrating everything. As Lottie's medication runs out shortly into their time in the wilderness, there is a deliberate vagueness and misdirection from the show regarding what is actually happening, what may be Lottie's delusions, and whether there is a supernatural element to the show.

In season two, after they clash and compete over providing food for the survivors, resulting in both of them nearly dying or being seriously injured, Natalie and Lottie's relationship arc shifts. After Lottie is nearly beaten to death by Shauna Shipman and Natalie survives being hunted for food by the others (at the sacrifice of Javi dying in her place), Lottie claims that the wilderness has chosen Natalie as their new leader.

In the adult time-line, Lottie has Natalie kidnapped and taken to her center (or cult, depending on which character describes the place) to stop her killing herself or relapsing. At the end of season two, Natalie is accidentally killed by Misty Quigley.

Fan Commentary

Lottienat is so funny to me if you think about it from Lottie's pov. Imagine liking a girl and making up rituals to keep her safe but also to have an excuse to touch her but it only makes her annoyed at you, then her boyfriend -whom you tried to hunt down and have an orgy with when you're on mushrooms- can only get it up at the thought of you during their first time cause you helped him calm down during a panic attack once so now you're unknowingly a part of an imaginary threesome between you, your crush and her boyfriend.

lottienat has been everything. theyve been friends to lovers theyve been lovers to friends they've been enemies to lovers theyve been friends to enemies they've been lovers to enemies theyve been enemies to friends . when lottie said "she's my friend" and nat said "is that what we are?" it's because she genuinely wanted to know. is that what we are. is there a word for what you are to me and what i am to you and the thing we make together.
