Once again we have a Bodie and Doyle prepared to give their all, or at least their bodies, for the sake of national security. In this case though they are sent to seduce information from a wealthy business man. Cowley gets them invitations to a party held by their target, where it is known he will choose someone to share his bed for the night.

The story is told from Doyle's point of view, a Doyle who has no previous experience in a homosexual relationship, but seems unperturbed by the fact that he might have to sleep with a complete stranger. Bodie is far more worried about their assignment, although he tries not to let his feelings show. We, the readers, have our own suspicions as to why Bodie is behaving strangely, and these are confirmed at the party when it becomes obvious that Doyle is the business man's choice for the night. Bodie acts very proprietorial towards his partner, and is very upset when Doyle and the man eventually leave together. Doyle, though, finds a few surprises waiting for him at the man's home, not least a few home truths about his relation ship with Bodie which until then he has chosen to ignore. The night over, things not quite having gone the way Doyle expected, we find Bodie waiting for him, and Doyle must face not only his partner's feelings for him, but his own feelings for his partner. In this story we see a softer side to Bodie, without losing any of his character's strength. Doyle comes across as far more manipulative than his partner, but the end of the story sees him valuing Bodie and acknowledging their love.

Something of a short story for Ellis Ward, but no less gripping for all that. Well worth a read.
