T.E. Lawrence (1888-1935) is better known to us as Lawrence of Arabia. His fame is due to his part in the Arab Revolt (1916-1918), which he wrote about in the memoir Seven Pillars of Wisdom. The evocative film Lawrence of Arabia (David Lean, 1962) was based on his life, with Peter O'Toole compellingly playing the title role, opposite Omar Sharif as Sherif Ali ibn el Kharish (a composite character of Arab leaders). Also popular with fans was the film A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia (Christopher Menaul, 1990), starring Ralph Fiennes as Lawrence, and Alexander Siddig as Faisal.

Lawrence's sexuality has been the subject of much discussion. It's been speculated he may have been asexual and homoromantic, with masochistic tendencies. However, with little known for sure, he makes for a beautiful and intriguing character to explore in fanworks.

The most popular slash pairing in fanworks is Lawrence/Faisal or Lawrence/Ali.
