It includes suggestions on how to improve your writing, ways to connect with other writers, and even a short history of the Harry Potter fandom. On the subject of “good fanfic”, there are often many thought-provoking discussions regarding craft and/or process of writing--particularly on issues of characterization, plot, and dialogue, to name a few. All of these are significant issues worth exploring en route to hammering out and tinkering with our fics before we proudly display them to the world (or to about three hundred people, of whom maybe three will actually take the time to review).
One thing I have not seen addressed regarding fanfiction is importance of language itself. By this I don't mean native languages such as English, Spanish, French...but rather the very words and raw material that we depend on for written communication. Or, if you're more abstract-minded, the system of signs/signifiers that make up all the images and representations bound up in the actual act of making and using language. This is the very foundation a good fic is built on, is it not?
