Kpop Dance Challenge is a Tiktok trend popularised from January 2021, though "dance challenges" existed before then. The form of this trend is a particular iconic part of the choreography being turned into a dance trend for short form video. These trends are often started by the idols themselves, who do the "killing part" with other idols.

These trends frequently "escape containment" and have non-kpop fans take part; it is also a gateway song that encourages some non fans get into Kpop music.

Origin

Zico of Block B was the one who popularized it, with his Any Song challenge with Hwasa in January 2020. TikTok wasn't that widely used by Koreans until then.
