Katya/Sofia is the femslash ship between Katya Goncharova and Sofia in the parafandom Goncharov.

Canon

Since Goncharov was developed collaboratively on Tumblr (and to a lesser extent other social media sites) around a movie that doesn't exist, there isn't one canonical version of the characters, relationships, or story, however, some points are mostly accepted among fans.

Katya is one of the main leads from the fake movie, and is usually agreed to be in a loveless marriage with Goncharov (if they ever were in love is debated). The specifics around Sofia's characters are less defined, but she is always a brunette and is usually mentioned to be of working class, her participation in the "movie" may have been less prominent than Katya's.

Regardless of that, it has been agreed that both women shared an important connection and had some heavy homoerotic subtext

Fandom

Katya/Sofia is one of the most popular ships in the fandom, having multiple posts dedicated to meta analysis for their relationship, their supposed scenes together and how things could have gone differently.

Interestingly, and despite many posts arguing that slash pairings (like Goncharov/Andrey) get more attention, this ship is the one with most fanfics on Ao3, making the f/f fics the main category. It has been suggested (even if only partially seriously) that one reason for this may be while that all of the male characters have brown hair, Katya is a blonde and Sofia is a brunette, which makes them easy to tell apart.[1]

The prominence of Katya/Sofia in fandom lead to some statistical analysis by ToastyStats observing that the lack of an official canon is pretty clearly correlated to a higher percentage of femslash works on AO3[2], which in turn has been suggested could be used as evidence for the theory that a lack of multiple interesting female characters in canon is a significant reason why slash is dominant across fandom as a whole[3].
