James V. Taurasi was a founding member of science fiction fandom. In 1937 he created Cosmic Publications, later known as Fandom House, which published many fanzines. Taurasi was involved in the feud between New Fandom and the Futurians as one of the "Triumvirs", along with Sam Moskowitz and William Sykora.
Along with his many other zines, Taurasi mimeographed some of Fantasy Fiction Field for Julius Unger. Issue 9 reported that Taurasi was the first known active fan to be drafted into World War II.[1] He was later deferred due to bad eyesight.
