James Coburn (1928–2002) was a television and film actor for over 45 years. He featured in more than 70 films and had over 100 television appearances, usually as a supporting actor. He specialised in action and Westerns and was also a martial artist, having trained with the late Bruce Lee. He was also known for his sense of humour, and was a guest on The Muppet Show, appeared in The Muppet Movie, and voiced Henry J. Waternoose III in Monsters Inc. In 1997 he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the movie Affliction and in 2002 he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries for his adaptation of Marion Zimmer Bradley's Mists of Avalon.

Coburn was popular among fans in the 1960s and 1970s especially, for his roles in fan-favourites Bonanza, Perry Mason, The Twilight Zone, Rawhide and similar, but it was his role as Britt in The Magnificent Seven which solidified his position. He had at least one fan club - James Coburn Fan Club - and was referenced as being a possible StarFleet captain in Star Trek movie discussions[1].
