Jameela Jamil is an English actress, best known to fandom as an actress on the NBC comedy The Good Place. Before her role as Tahani Al-Jamil, she had never acted and was best known for her work as a television presenter. Jamil is also well-known for her body positivity activism and frank discussion of her previous eating disorder.[1] Said activism often encourages engagement from her fan base, particularly with the I Weigh campaign that encouraged submissions from fans.
Relationship to Fandom
Jameela Jamil has previously sought out fanfiction about her character Tahani and has made multiple encouraging remarks about the non-canon femslash ship Teleanor. In an interview in Stylist, she even mentions common tropes she's seen in Tahani/Eleanor fic:
"I love the fact that [my character] and Eleanor [Bell] have this friendship and they kinda form a rivalry. If anything, it’s kind of a sexual tension that fans seem to have picked up on between me and Eleanor [...] I’ve been getting erotic fan fiction written about me, which is fascinating…
I just love that all of them start with the same thing, which is that we always high-five and then our fingers clasp together and then with her other hand she starts playing with my hair. That’s always how it begins."[2]
