A Jackson Wang Party is a trope first used in English-language kpop fanfiction in which a party hosted by GOT7 member Jackson Wang is utilized as a plot device to set up the main couple. The trope eventually broke containment and has been spotted in a variety of other fannish contexts.

Background

The trope first saw use in kpop fanfiction, specifically those revolving around GOT7, during the mid-2010s.[note 1] It is unknown exactly what the first work to feature the trope was or when it was posted.

The concept of a Jackson Wang Party derives from the real Jackson's sociable personality, as he is known to be friends with many other idols. Many fans observing Jackson decided that he would, thus, be a great party host.

By approximately 2019/2020, Jackson's parties were considered a staple of k-pop fanfiction and were joked about on platforms such as TikTok.[1]

Containment Breach

At some point, the Jackson Wang Party began to spread outside of k-pop fandom. Naturally, it spread to k-drama fandoms. However, the trope has been spotted in a variety of unexpected contexts.
