An American named Captain Jack Harkness appears in one episode of Torchwood, when Jack and Tosh accidentally wind up in 1941. Jack reveals that he originally stole the "real" Jack's identity just after he died, presumably as part of the con job mentioned in Jack's first appearance in Doctor Who.
Little is known about 1941 Jack, except that he volunteered to serve with the RAF in World War II and had a relationship with a young Welsh woman named Nancy.
Because the Torchwood episode features a budding romance between Jack and 1941 Jack, he is usually paired with Jack when he appears in fanworks.
