Intensive Atlantis RPG was an Atlantis: The Lost Empire roleplaying group.

Group Description

This is a place for people who need more of a challenge than RPs which feature only "See Spot run" writing. Atlantis, while a Disney movie, has intriguing characters which deserve a more thorough look than what they get in most clubs. If you'd like a chance to explore the psyche of your favorite character, and see what other people have discovered about their favorites, then this is the place for you. Taken characters include Helga, Audrey, Kida, Vinny, Milo, Sweet, and Mole. Original characters include Daymeeko, Dulal, Clara, Elizabeth, Neenya, and Shahnahkehm. Open characters include Packard, Whitmore, Cookie, Harcourt, King Nedahk, and the sexiest man alive, Rourke.

Guidelines

Yes, I know everyone hates guidelines. But one of the main problems with many RPG's is that sorely-needed rules are left out because they're not 'fun.' I think all of these are reasonable, and will help to make everything more enjoyable for everyone involved.

1. Posts should be of a decent length. I get easily fed up with people who post, say, four sentences at a time. That's not fair to anyone in the club, and it's extremely difficult to work off of. I don't expect novels here, but the fact is that, if you're really thinking about all aspects of your character, you're going to have more to say than one tiny paragraph. Don't be afraid of being wordy; detail is beautiful. Take the time to do it right.

2. Post at least once a week. You really should post much more than this; ideally, daily. But I realize that we're all busy people, and I know that the kind of writing I'm demanding takes a lot of time. I would rather have one or two good posts from you a week than a few hastily thrown together ones, and I'm not going to be a Post Nazi. But, if you go MIA for over a week or so, and I don't receive a damned good explanation for it, I'll reassign your character so that we can keep everything moving. Are we clear?

3. Made-up characters are absolutely welcome here; a traditional cast is useless without the people that surround them. However, I want all characters to be thought out, and human. (Unless you're really, really good at, say, Milo's cat.. If you can give me a detailed psychological profile for his cat or another animal character, I'll welcome you with open arms, and probably tell my friends about you.) Basically, if you can do a good character analysis, and you're willing to explore the inner workings of your character, then we're good. Also, your character should not have any ridiculous or god-like powers. (This goes out especially to anyone who likes playing 'magicians.' I've studied magick, and I'm not buying for a minute that you can, say, destroy the palace by raising your hands and muttering something to your pet falcon. Okay?) God-like characters are both boring and annoying, and if you pull that kind of crap here, I'll boot you.

4. No moving other people's characters, and no moding in battle sequences. The sheer nature of this kind of RPG means that, at times, you're going to have to do a minimal amount of this; I understand that. It's okay for you to, say, pin a character in one post, as long as you understand that they may well break free in their next post. You may *not*, however, knock them out, destroy their house, kill their brother, or any nonsense like that. Just use common sense here, and we'll be fine.

5. Don't kill or seriously maim another character. It's just bad form.

6. Language, violence, etc. are fine. I, for one, tend to use a variety of colourful words in my writing. But please keep it R-rated or better; excessive profanity or graphic sex has no place here.

7. This RPG takes place right after Atlantis is saved from the volcano. This means that no one has left the island yet, so, if you want to have, say, Audrey decide to stay behind for whatever reason, that's fine. Just keep it in character; be sure that you can explain *why* she would want to stay.

8. This is a character-driven RPG. I want to hear what your character is thinking, why s/he does what s/he does, etc. DETAIL IS GOOD.

Well.. I think that's enough guidelines! These are not set in stone; they exist simply to help keep everybody on the same page. If you repeatedly violate them, though, or act in an otherwise unreasonable way, you may be removed from the club.

History

On June 16 2002, the group admin posted

Hello everyone. I think I speak for everyone when I say that interest seems to have waned. This leaves us with three options:

1) continue in this vein, and try (again) to give it our all.
2) restart, with a new assemblage of interested participants, and with same-role options available to current members, or
3) thank everyone for a pleasant run and call it an evening.

I am flexible, though I lean heavily to options 2 or 3. Leave your vote, and I'll make a decision in about 2 1/2 weeks, to give everyone time to stop by.

One person voted for option three, and three people voted for option two. However, the admin never made any follow-up posts.

The final non-spambot post in the group was a thread in March 2003 by a user interested in joining as Lyle Rourke.

Hey!

I'm new, just joined, and I was wondering if I could take Rourke as my character? Please?

Hi, sorry you had to wait a couple of days there...actually you're lucky I happened to check the list! :) The sad truth is, this game is pretty much expired. :P Hey, *I'll* play with you but I don't know about anyone else. 8) Let's see if anyone else responds.

We're going to have to be very creative to work with just Rourke, Mole and Sweet. I don't even remember, to be honest, where we did leave off. I periodically would check back here for a while, but when the owner sort of slipped off into oblivion, I thought she unofficially closed the RPG, so I decided to not post as much. This was a really great RPG, though. I know I shall miss it. Heck, I miss it right now. If you two are interested in playing your characters in a more active RPG I can give you a reccomendation. Currently, in this RPG, there is no Rourke and I have Mole, but I would be willing to give him up to you, jackdawmmx, because I know you'd play the **** outta him! :)
