Inheritance is an AU Worm fanfic written by FirstSelector and Pendragoon. It has Taylor take on the mantle of Butcher XV after accidentally killing the previous Butcher. It was inspired by HowlingGuardian's Here Comes The New Boss (Nothing Like The Old Boss), which popularized the concept.
Fans in the SpaceBattles thread for the fic have created hundreds of omakes, totalling hundreds of thousands of words.
Summary
Taylor's first night out goes horrifically wrong. After an accident, she winds up with fourteen voices in her head, marking her as Butcher XV. This certainly complicates her planned heroic career, but sometimes you have to take refuge in audacity.
Reception

The fic became popular within the fandom, however fans have criticized the way some characters are characterized, and its low stakes plot.

These character differences don’t matter, however, as long as the characters are faithful, enjoyable, and engaging to read. So, does Inheritance do this? No.[1]

I'm reading Inheritance and y'know. For chapters and chapters it's been nice but felt like there wasn't really any obstacle or friction left on the tracks. But at the same time the latest chapter hits at that particular peculiarity of being Taylor. She's an incredible cipher for whatever you want to put her through, but somehow still solid as a rock. This story is up there as one of the best for a reason, and even if it doesn't give you nail-biting anxiety, maybe it can still be a pleasant place to put your mind.[2]

If you like the author’s writing, it’s fine, but it doesn’t really have any stakes, and it also has a “Taylor is always right” feeling to it. I’m not really a fan, but it’s decent enough I guess[3]
