Fandom Overview

Demographics

Since the original mobile game is only released in Japanese and traditional Chinese (in the Taiwan region), there is a larger fanbase of IDOLiSH7 in Japan, Taiwan, and the rest of the Chinese-speaking world.

The English-speaking fandom has increased in size since the first season of the anime aired in 2018 and the series was made more accessible to people who speak neither Japanese nor Mandarin Chinese. Many fan translations of game content are now available in English.

Ships

Due to the predominantly male cast, popular ships in the fandom tend to be slash ships. However, the het ship Tsumugi/Gaku also enjoys moderate popularity because of their interactions and Gaku's feelings for Tsumugi in canon.

Yuki/Momo is the ship with the most AO3 works written about them as of October 2024. The ship is considered by many fans as canon or semi-canon, since they have a married couple act in-game (how much is it an act is up to debate) and a profound history together. During interactions with fans on a panel of AINANA expo in 2023, voice actors of the characters, Shinnosuke Tachibana and Sōichirō Hoshi, declared that the very day, May 6th, is the couple's wedding anniversary. The moment is documented by fan @1100__per on Twitter/X[1].

The most popular ships of the fandom include:

These videos include AMVs, animatics, song covers, and dancing videos of fans cosplaying the characters. AMVs and animatics based on songs that are not from the franchise are also popular.
