Canon
Media
IDOLiSH7 begins as a mobile rhythm game released in 2015. The frachise has grown since then, and it now comprises of multiple albums, live stage performances, three seasons of anime, several manga spin-offs, and more. The first season of the anime aired in 2018.
Characters
The main characters each has a naming motif related to either numbers or zodiac animals, which is commonly used to referred to them in Japanese and Chinese fandoms. For example, if a fan work is marked as "45" or "4x5," then the work is probably about the ship between Tamaki (4) and Sogo (5).

Fandom Overview
Demographics
Since the original mobile game is only released in Japanese and traditional Chinese (in the Taiwan region), there is a larger fanbase of IDOLiSH7 in Japan, Taiwan, and the rest of the Chinese-speaking world.
The English-speaking fandom has increased in size since the first season of the anime aired in 2018 and the series was made more accessible to people who speak neither Japanese nor Mandarin Chinese. Many fan translations of game content are now available in English.
Ships
Due to the predominantly male cast, popular ships in the fandom tend to be slash ships. However, the het ship Tsumugi/Gaku also enjoys moderate popularity because of their interactions and Gaku's feelings for Tsumugi in canon.
Yuki/Momo is the ship with the most AO3 works written about them as of October 2024. The ship is considered by many fans as canon or semi-canon, since they have a married couple act in-game (how much is it an act is up to debate) and a profound history together. During interactions with fans on a panel of AINANA expo in 2023, voice actors of the characters, Shinnosuke Tachibana and Sōichirō Hoshi, declared that the very day, May 6th, is the couple's wedding anniversary. The moment is documented by fan @1100__per on Twitter/X[1].
