[How to be a PERFECT VIDDER] is a satirical vid depicting common mistakes made when vidding. The entire vid is created in a sarcastic tone, and advises viewers to use low-quality clips when vidding and make sure to include large amounts of effects and overlays.

Main points from video

  • Rule 1: "Use as much effects as possible."
  • Rule 2: "Don't forget to use silly fonts especially when they don't go with the video"
  • Rule 3: "Low-quality clips are cool."
  • Rule 4: "If you make a funny video with quotes change the text as fast as you can so you can't actually read anything"
  • Rule 5: "Overlays are very important. Put an overlay over an overlay and on top an overlay"
  • Rule 6: "Right cropping? Who fucking cares?"

Explanation

was hesitating about uploading this stuff I made recently, but anyway :D *predicting thouthands of dislikes*

A lot of people asked me to give some advices about vidding and I've finally decided to create a list of the most common mistakes new vidders usually make. But I can't just make a list, you know? That won't be fun. Sarcasm is a delicious spice, it makes everything better. It both enertains us and makes all the drawbacks vidisible. So why no to use it here? I don't want to offend anyone or smth like that - I just want to highlight all the disadvantages which beginners are s eeking for in their videos. And also make you laugh a bit (maybe, not only new vidders xD).

Ok, for those without sense of humour - DON'T DO THAT. Don't do anything showed in the video. If you noticed that you've done smth like that in your vids before - just try no to repeat it in the next ones and you'll see improvement at once.

Here is the list of explanations:

1. Don't use too much effects. I've seen a lot of beginners whose first step in vidding was adding as much effects as possible. You may say that there are plenty of vidders who use a lot of effects perfectly - yes, they edit like gods, but it passed hell of a time since they started vidding. You see, when you are new and don't know how to edit properly yet, effects will just spoil it all, especially those original SV dumb ones. First of all, try to master the editing itself without all those additional tools, understand how it all works. And only then your next step must be work with effects.

2. Don't use strange fonts. They may seem quite normal themselves, but they're not always appropriate for vidding. It doesn't look well when a vidder uses a curly/lovely/wavy font in a video about death or murder. Try to use something simpler but stylish instead - for example, I used Arial in the whole vid and it doesn't look awful. It's all about the way you present it.

3. Use good-quality clips. The most common excuse I've heard - "I can't find a better quality". Well, so how did the others find? Use torrents (like kickass.to), ask google, ask other vidders - it's all possible. I don't say you shoud use only HD clips - it can be just normal quality. But if you use something downloaded from YouTube in 240p - it doesn't look pretty.

4. Don't change text too fast. Okay, that's the problem not only for beginners. I've seen so many times how vidders in their funny vids try to type all the text a person say. And people sometimes talk reaaaly fast. If you don't know what to do in such case - just type key or main words. Or don't type anyhting. Either way people's eyes will hurt.

5. Don't use too much overlays. That's close to the first point - sometimes new vidders try to use all they have in one vid, and it turns out to be a total mess. If you're not sure whether you should put an overlay there or not - better not. Really.

6. Make right cropping. Or just simply - crop it. Don't be lazy - go to Pan/Crop and make all the clips look like 16:9. Or if you want to make a video widescreen - add Cookie Cutter to all the clips which are 16:9 and cut black strips up and down. Either way your vid won't look unified and complete.

I hope you found this vid funny (and maybe useful in some way). Remember, it's just a jesting list for a 'perfect vidder', so don't get offended if you're about to xD

Ok, if you read it, you'll probably hate me for this comment, but I'm always honest so here we go.. I didn't find that funny, at all!! I mean, I get the whole point of not taking things seriously, and I'm usually someone who can handle derision. Besides, I agree with everything you say. Especially on the multieffects part and overlays..

But, in your video, I don't know, it just really looks like mocking. I like your description box much better than the video itself, bc it's much more helpful, and less condescending. The thing is, vidding is not an easy task, I think everyone will agree on that. It usually takes a great amount of time before making a very good video from what I saw. So when beginners learn, they make mistakes. I don't get how turning these mistakes into mockery is supposed to help. It's just gonna make them feel like crap.

To be even more honest, I'm not really talking about myself here. The only mistake I can relate to here is the quality thing. Though I 300% agree with you on this, I really do - because yeah, low-quality clips can definitely ruin a video - even I find a bit hard to keep the quality high enough. I download my episodes in HD, I actually pay for it. But I don't use Sony vegas pro, and though I love my program, the quality doesn't look as good as a Sony Vegas pro-made video. SVPro is the best program for this, that's a fact.. Yet I never wanted to crack it. I know everyone does, I respect that, but crack is not my thing, I'd rather buy my own stuff.. So I just wanna say, if everyone could render the highest quality video, they would! It's just not that easy for everyone, that's something to consider as well.. Anyway!

Now if others find it funny, good for them - and good for you, honestly! In terms of editing though, your video is great![1]

this is great but I have to say sth about the Quality thing: people like me who are living in Germany don't have a lot of options if it comes to downloading eps. especially torrents aren't safe here. most people get caught and have to pay a lot of money (between 800 - 1.000 €) for downloading stuff illegal. but you are right a lot of scenes are in HD available on youtube. :) you just have to find the right one :D [2]

nowadays the videos made by various vidders look exactly the same. There is no originality. The transitions, colorings, song choice, footage/clips, SAME fonts. I know that people use many inspirations from others and so on but it's just..everything's the same. I feel like I'm watching vids made by the same person.

And as for lack of originality - I'm tired of seeing everyone vidding the same tv shows, movies. I understand, they are popular, people like them, enjoy them but if you really want to deliver something new and fresh shouldn't you seek other, underrated movies and pay a strong tribute to them with your skills and turn them into something beautiful and make people "Wow! I've never seen this movie before, your project made it look interesting!"? I get that impression like vidding is now a constant race between people. They want to be better and better than everyone else, but shouldn't it be about fun? If some people do make little mistakes - it's their work, they have put time into their work and this work shouldn't be mocked because, oh, there are two different fonts in one video.[3]

Oh, this was gold!

Could I just say something about the cropping? Lately you can see around videos sporting different kinds of cropping as a chosen style so I don't know if the last suggestion is really all that valid. I'd say that in the end, if you chose to do so and know what you are doing, the effect is different than just taking movies/tvshows and slaping them there without adjusting the cropping. I don't know if I explained myself well. lol

Also, I will add a pet peeve of mine, and a mistake I did myself, among others. Use logoless clips or, if the ones you downloaded have the network logo or whatever, crop the clip until you can't see it anymore. Seeing the logo, in my opinion, cheapens the whole video. Not seeing it, however, gives the video a more neat appearence.[4]

Hahaha super cute! I do agree with nonsense effects in many instances, but honestly, I do really enjoy watching videos loaded with effects if the timing is right and they fit well. BUT THE TEXT THING. That can be so distracting, especially if it doesn't fit the mood...

And on the low quality thing, I'm pretty sure that's not a conscious choice. It's what people can get their hands on (and in my case, my computer crashes easier when it tries to move the large clips.)

And somehow... even though you were doing all these wrong things I still really enjoyed this video. Because your timing is just kind of amazing.[5]

well this video was really helpful, I just started yt and I made almost every single mistake you listed 😅😅 BTW I love sarcasm so your idea was very creative and as I said I live for sarcasm so I LOVE IT!![6]
