Hobbit Smut was an invite-only fanfic challenge community in hobbit fandom. It held periodic challenges with specific parameters, usually requiring fics to be at least 1000 words and rated R or NC-17. It was open to all pairings, including het, interspecies slash (which has been banned at some other hobbit commnities and archives), and hobbitpiles (threesomes and moresomes). The community contained 22 challenges and 269 stories when the community was archived in 2006.[1]
The community used manips by The Theban Band as banners.

Games Hobbits Play Challenge - Stories that revolve around or focuses on one of the listed games.[3]
Hold Me, Heal Me Challenge - Stories that involves "sexual healing" -- with sex used as a means to healing or a component of healing -- either physical or emotional.[4]
Birthday Candles Are HOT! Challenge - Stories involving birthdays in some form or fashion.[5]
In the Wardrobe! Under the Bed! Challenge - Stories that involve something that SCARES one or more of the characters.[6]
100 Percent HOT! Challenge - Drabbles.[7]
Beneath the Mistletoe Challenge - Stories about the Yule season as celebrated by our beloved hobbitses.[8]
Celebrating the HEAT!!! Challenge - Droubles.
Double Dare! Challenge - Stories in which someone dares one of the characters in some fashion.[9]
I'm Doing WHO?! Challenge - Stories focusing on a rare pairing/piling.[10]
Silver Scream Challenge - Stories that include a movie quote.[11]
That String Around Your Finger Challenge - Stories about SOMEONE forgetting (or apparently forgetting!) an important anniversary and what happens as a result.[12]
Absinthe Makes the Heart Grow Fonder Challenge - Stories that involve the use of an aphrodisiac.[13]
My Birthday Suit Needs Pressing! Challenge - Stories where one of our favorite hobbits ends up in public in his or her birthday suit -- by accident or design.[14]
What Dreams May Come Challenge - Stories about death.[15]
Short, Wet and Hot! Challenge - Dribbles.[16]
The Weather Outside Is Frightful Challenge - Stories that revolve around how some frightful winter weather generates unexpected heat.[17]
With a Cherry on Top Challenge - Stories where food plays a key role in a close encounter of the best kind -- cooking as seduction, eating as foreplay, food as a sex toy -- any or all of the above. [18]
When Pigs Fly! Challenge - Stories where two individuals are VERY antagonistic towards each other at the beginning of the story but, nonetheless, end up in a relationship.[19]
Express Train to Hobbiton Challenge - Stories containing one or more of supposed "anachronisms" and that make the anachronism(s) make sense and "fit" in the time and place of the story.[20]
Inside a Song Challenge - Stories inspired by one of the author's favourite songs.[21]
Ash Nazg Challenge - Stories about one of the characters in The Lord of the Rings claiming the One Ring and what happens as a result.[22]
