Hey Arnold!/Memories
Introduction
- tell us your memories/oral history of Hey Arnold! fandom
Harpie's memories
Hey Arnold was one the first fandoms I was active in (besides Lizzie McGuire, Harry Potter and X-Men). This was back in 2002, I even started writing for it (although I cringe at the idea of how bad my writing was, I'm afraid to reread it). I remember FFN was like one of the only locations with fanfiction for the series, I have a feeling there might have been another site but I can't for the life of me remember. Helga/Arnold fanfiction was huge back then, and I was a huge fan of it, but I absolutely loved Helga as a character. I remember seeing/reading The Patakis, wishing it would actually happen and loving the fanart. Futurefics (which I don't believe anyone actually referred to them as such back then) frequently appeared. I don't remember any smut/lemon fics for Hey Arnold, but a lot of them dealt with the aftermath of sex - such as pregnancy - or adult themes such as alcohol and [physical and mental] abuse. Phoebe/Gerald frequently appeared in fanfics along with H/A. A few authors I've read & favorited at FFN are: SilverChocolate, Lizzie D (who I actually made a friend out of back then) & Heidi Patacki. Pairings didn't really have smooshed names or anything like that, writers often just used H/A or HA or just Arnold/Helga. Sadly left the fandom sometime in late 2003 so anything after that I was not apart of.
