Helena "H.G." Wells was a recurring character on Warehouse 13. She was first introduced in season 2 as a genderbent time-displaced version of the science fiction author H.G. Wells.

Canon

Helena "H.G." Wells was a science fiction author and inventor in Victorian England; due to the sexism of the time, she used her brother Charles as a front for her writing. She was an agent for Warehouse 12 until her daughter Christina was murdered; after she was unable to invent anything that would allow her to save her daughter's life, she asked to be bronzed in order to wake in a better world. She was debronzed by James MacPherson in the present-day, and was alternately an enemy of and ally to Warehouse 13 and especially Myka Bering. Ultimately, she decided to retire from the Warehouse and moved in with a single father named Nate and his daughter Adelaide.

She is openly bisexual, having stated "Many of my lovers were men" in episode 2x11, "Buried." By the end of the series she is dating a woman named Giselle.

Fandom

H.G. is probably the second-most popular character in the fandom[1] despite only being introduced in season 2. Her popularity is no doubt due to being one half of the fandom OTP, the femslash pairing of Myka/H.G.

Relationships

The overwhelmingly dominant ship for H.G. is with Myka; however, she is occasionally found in the femslash pairings of Claudia/H.G., Mrs. Frederic/H.G., and H.G./Leena, as well as the het pairing of H.G./Pete.

Tropes

  • Canon-Divergent AUs: Many fanworks diverge from canon by having H.G. return to working with Myka at the Warehouse, or take place in canon-divergent AUs in which H.G. never left at all.
  • Inventions: Building on H.G.'s canonical inventiveness, many fanworks feature her continuing to invent devices to aid the Warehouse.
