Hedwig is Harry Potter's pet owl in the Harry Potter series. She appears as a secondary character in some fanfic and is sometimes the subject of fanart.
Canon
Hedwig was bought for Harry Potter as an eleventh birthday present by Rubeus Hagrid from Eeylops Owl Emporium while Harry was shopping for robes. He named her Hedwig after he saw the name in A History of Magic before he started at Hogwarts.
She was killed by the Killing Curse at the beginning of the seventh novel while she and Harry were travelling with Hagrid on a flying motorcycle.
