Hatsume Mei is a minor character on Boku no Hero Academia. She is a hero support student at UA, known for her innovative and sometimes dangerous inventions. She teamed up with Midoriya Izuku for part of the 1st year Sports Festival, and later used her one-on-one battle against Iida Tenya to show off her gear to potential sponsors - but forfeited the match once she'd done her presentation.
Her tendency to call her inventions her "babies" is often featured in fanworks.
History
Common Pairings
She is often paired with Midoriya, either romantically or as a friend. in AUs where Midoriya goes into the support track instead of becoming a hero student, they are often "chaos gremlins" who cause their teacher, Maijima Higari, no end of frustration. (They are usually also considered his best students.)
It is also common in some fanworks, especially pre-canon AUs and works in which Midoriya becomes a vigilante, for Hatsume to make up one third of an alternate Dekusquad. In these AUs, Hatsume and Shinsou often take the place of Uraraka and Iida as Midoriya's close friends.
It's also common for her to be aroace.

Fanfic
Very few fanfics are focused on Hatsume Mei alone; she's usually a background character. Even when she's part of the main pairing, the story is most often about the other character.
- Cheat Code: Support Strategist (AO3 by Clouds: One of the "For the want of a nail" series, a set of stories where Midoriya does not receive One for All but winds up on a different route to becoming a hero. He and Mei meet at the UA exam and become fast friends, and later get romantically involved.
- Hatsume's Inadvertent Seduction of a Human 3D Printer by JajaLala: Hatsume/Yaoyorozu Momo - Plays up Hatsume's obliviousness to social norms as she decides to befriend the person whose quirk she wants access to
- redox reaction by petrichor (findingkairos): Friendship with Todoroki Shouto, who loves the scientific possibilities of his quirk; because of their teamwork, Power Loader winds up asking Aizawa if Shouto can transfer to Support instead of the Hero track.
