Justin, Travis, and Griffin McElroy are three brothers from Huntington, West Virginia. They have been creating a variety of podcasts, YouTube video series, and television shows since 2010. Their most popular works include My Brother, My Brother and Me (an advice podcast for the modern era), The Adventure Zone (a D&D actual-play podcast), and Monster Factory (a YouTube series about creating the worst possible game characters).

The McElroys work together for some shows, but each brother also has projects on their own with their wives and with non-McElroys. Shows by Justin include Sawbones and Things I Bought at Sheetz; shows by Travis include Shmanners, Interrobang, and Trends Like These; shows by Griffin include Peacecraft, Griffin's Amiibo Corner, Car Boys, and Cool Games, Inc. All three brothers were regulars on Polygon's now-ended series Awful Squad, where staff members played PUBG together.

Justin and Griffin both worked for gaming website Joystiq when MBMBaM began, and many of their first fans found them this way. They both then moved to Polygon, which lead to more fan overlap, until they left in 2018.[1] Though Monster Factory began on Polygon, Justin and Griffin have continued to publish the video series on both Polygon and The McElroy Family YouTube channel. All three brothers now work full-time on their own projects.

The McElroys have some notable fans, including Jimmy Buffett and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Griffin appeared on an episode of We Bare Bears and one of the storyboard artists wrote in a reference to Taako, Justin's character from The Adventure Zone.[2]

Example Fanworks

The McElroys have asked in the past that fans not sell unlicensed merchandise or buy from fans that do and instead buy from their official store (and contact them if they want to create official merch). See Justin's tweet from 16 July 2018 and ensuing discussion.[3] However, individual commissions are allowed,[4] and fanart made not-for-profit is fine.
