Great Bird of the Galaxy is a gen Star Trek: TOS anthology put out by a high school club in Lake Ronkonkama, NY. [1]

The zine title is a reference to Gene Roddenberry's nickname: Great Bird of the Galaxy.

Issue 1

Great Bird of the Galaxy 1 is not dated, but published in 1972 or 1973. It contains 32 pages.

front cover of issue #1

It contains illos by Nick Greenko and Barbara Salage.

Note: something that may be in a different edition: Finagle's Folly by B. Craig.

From the editor's notes:

I don't know exactly how we actually decided to do this magazine.... I guess the idea came about when Nick and I started talking about Star Trek during rehearsals of The Crucible at our school. We talked about the different episodes and the characters we liked. Maybe we finally hit upon the idea of doing our own magazine because of a friend of mine, the editor of the Final Frontier which so far, has only one issue.

[...]

We spread the news to several friends we had in common and they loved the idea and said they'd like to do a column for us. When we didn't know where we could get paper and the use of a mimeograph machine, I didn't think we could do it and even now, as I type this up, I still can't believe it. From the time we started this magazine the sun has shown when the clouds have seemed the darkest. All I can say is that the I hope the sun will continue to shine for us and with your help with money as well as articles, stories, and poems, etc. perhaps we'll really make it big someday.

This magazine has really grown; it has become the whole way of life for those doing it. In fact, it has changed our lives! No longer are we plain Nick, Sue, Susan, and Margaret, but now we [are] ercan, Sister Maieve, Commander Hecate, and Lt. Comm. Hope.

It's a fantastic experience that everyone should have during their life. It's not the weekly parties with everyone taking turns giving it, or the constant insane, wonderful letters you get at least once a day, or the delightful, imaginative conversations be it on the phone or in school (before and after and during class if you fancy it!) and the marvelous feeling of being constant nagged that does it. I could be all them combined with a new sense of Star Trek, wonder almost a rebirth of Star Trek curiosity that changes your whole perspective. I am really overwhelmed at this whole thing!!!
