Reactions and Reviews

A small, delightful story of Kirk and Spock camping out at some other planet's grand canyon and engaging in a "quickie" as they overlook the vista.

Their fast sexual encounter leads to a discussion of what each needs and wants, employing some clever repartee and interesting dialogue.

I was a little confused as to why Starfleet rules compare officers having sex with each other to harassing, degrading, coercing and tormenting, but Kirk and Spock seem to understand it.

Except for too many POV changes, this story was well-written by. I'm assuming, a new author. One of the best elements was the good use of the environment —the rustic canyon, the sunset and the beauty of the surroundings. All were integrated nicely into the story. Good work. [1]

I like this author's style, language finely wrought; I love the drawn-out sense of time.

Kirk and Spock are at Berengaria's Grand Canyon. I don't know that there was any real significance or relevance to this setting, but I liked it- Alone together in such a powerful place, wanting to say what needs to be said, needing to do what wants to be done. These moments stretch out so wonderfully, and we can feel their physical selves and we are drawn emotionally into their quiet, close conversation and soft touches, When we come in on them, Kirk had previously been telling Spock his strong feelings. It's a powerful, exquisite passage when Kirk talks about being addicted—that he wants all of Spock with all of himself, but isn't sure in what way, what that even means- Is there a line that needs to be drawn? I love Spock's honest confusion and logical wide-openness. Take what you want, Jim, give in to what you want. A beautifully intense scene when Spock focuses Kirk's feelings and energies into expression sexually. But after the act (only touching/orgasm). Kirk is distressed, not wanting Spock to feel he's just a convenient body for when his captain feels lust, needs relief. But they talk, resolve, clear what they want with each other. "Unseams," as in Spock doing so to Kirk's pants—I like that.

A lovely story; I was warmed. Really true dialogue, sweet and subtle feelings. [2]

This was a real mood-setter at the start, Kirk Spock on vacation (as I was when I read it) looking out over Berengaria's Grand Canyon and getting sentimental.

But what begins with a hand on a shoulder and a "where do we go from here" conversation, very jarringly jumps light years ahead as Spock unzips Kirk's jeans without so much as a warm-up loss and masturbates him. It really killed the mood for me.

Following that, Kirk declares it was just a quickie and didn't matter. I like Spock's calm determination through all Kirk's ruminations and denial, but it's kind of a role-reversal to me. Yes, they get in synch at the end,but all we see or hear of it is their unified steps as they hike back to the lodge. We're toJd. not shown, that later that night things aref as the title implies, sweet. [3]
