Reactions and Reviews

Once again, another great K/S story from a very talented author. As usual, the characterizations of Kirk and Spock are done to perfection, the concept is unique, and the story is never rushed.

Here, the Enterprise is sent to investigate the destruction of a private transport ship and the disappearance of another starship in the same area, when it is suddenly attacked by a number of unknown alien vessels. Then the Enterprise is caught and held in a tractor beam, but before the Enterprise can launch a counter-attack to try to break free, both Kirk and Spock are beamed away from the ship onto an alien vessel. There they are both subjected to a number of grisly experiments before they finally realize the aliens' true intentions—to turn Kirk into one of them by injecting him with their DNA. Spock theorizes that this is so the aliens can extract information from Kirk more easily, although that thought brings little comfort to either of them. As the days pass, Kirk finds himself struggling to hold onto his identity as the alien DNA quickly takes over his body. To make matters worse, he is separated from Spock for longer and longer periods of time, making it almost impossible for him to remember who he was. Kirk's fight to remain human, Spock's anguish at what is happening to his captain, and their final solution to prevent the aliens from succeeding in their plans are guaranteed to keep the reader on edge all the way through this well- written tale.

Another fantastic job by one of the best K/S authors around today.[1]

I was pleasantly surprised by this story. I read some of her earlier works and it wasn’t really to my taste because it was always about Spock getting literally abused to within an inch of his life, no holds barred, mentally as well as physically in most of her stories. I knew that she is an excellent writer, but the way she handled the subject really turned me off. So for the most part, I tend to skip her stories when I see her name assuming that this is her only style of writing.

This story, however, was very different from her norm. It is an excellent and evenly written-out tale. Spock was not the victim this time around. It is a very suspenseful, poignant, and sad. It is about the Enterprise investigating the disappearance of several ships. Kirk and Spock are captured by these aliens, and Kirk is slowly being transformed into one of the aliens in order to access his knowledge of the Federation. That’s when the fun begins. This story is a must read. Deanna really out- done herself this time around.

I give it a three hankie and a big sob salute. Way to go, girl. [2]

This was SO very good! A must read! While investigating reports of missing ships, Kirk and Spock are captured. The aliens, known as the TunWe, begin to slowly turn Kirk into one of them in hopes of gaining federation information. Spock has his orders and his duty so that the TunWe will not succeed should he lose Kirk to them, while at the same time coming to terms with his love for his captain. Kirk must also face his own feelings about Spock, as his humanity slowly slips away. It's beautifully written and very poignant. Also powerful in the story telling. I can't recommend it enough. One of the things I love best is that the story is done in both Kirk's and Spock's POV. I happen to love that style of writing if done correctly and this certainly is. Did I mention the hot sex? Yes. That too! Another winner by Deanna. [3]

This is about 40 or so pages. Federation ships are being destroyed or disappearing. The Enterprise is sent to investigate. This is definitely a "get Kirk" story. Aliens called the Tunwe capture Kirk and Spock, but only torture Kirk. This is an interesting story which is very well written. I tend to be a sucker for h/c so I find this story very satisfying. This is my favorite story in FIRST TIME 55. [4]
