Glint of Heaven is a Hanson fanfic by Amanda Dupuis. It was written from August to October 1997, making it one of the earliest fics to reach widespread popularity in the fandom.
The story centers around Taylor's relationship with a girl named Marissa, and is narrated by an older Marissa looking back on how the two of them met and began dating.
Just One of Those Things
Just One of Those Things is a sequel to Glint of Heaven, and focuses primarily on Isaac and Clio, a college freshman who is hired to tutor the boys and later begins a relationship with Isaac. Taylor and Marissa are seen in this fic as well.
Reactions and Reviews
It’s a fairly typical story of teenage love, set against the backdrop of Hanson’s rise to fame. It’s a topic that nearly every author tried back in the day, but Llama’s way with words makes her stand out. My only real complaint is that the narrator reads a bit precocious for her age, but the story is sort of set up as a reflection upon an earlier time in her life, so it works in a way.[1]
The writing seems less polished, too, than Glint of Heaven was, with various typos and an awkward present tense narration that sometimes slips into past. Perhaps Llama wrote it quickly to appease readers who wanted more, but her heart wasn’t in it the second time around. Although Isaac and Clio’s story is touching, the drama between Taylor and Marissa seems contrived. Still, it’s a decent story that very nearly serves to clear up the confusion I had at the end of Glint of Heaven.[2]
Marissa and Clio are two of the most famous heroines in Hanson Fiction and it's not because they're 5' 6" tall, around 100 pounds and with a flirty and outgoing personality. They're totally normal girls, and that's what makes the stories so good. How can a normal girl deal with having a relationship with two of the most popular teenagers in the entire world.[3]
“Glintof Heaven” was the best of the best of young Hansons in love.Relive Hanson circa ’97 in these stories.[4]
I can't believe the first time I came across this story was a good 4 years ago! It's amazing how quickly time passes. Well, I was moved then, and I'm moved now. This story is so incredibly REAL, you can truly feel what Marissa feels. It is a MUST-READ for fans of Taylor.
The sequel to "Glint of Heaven", but shifting the focus a bit to Isaac and his relationship with Clio, a girl hired to tutor the boys in Math, if I remember correctly. Extremely well-written and an enjoyable read.[5]
The author is truly talented with a capital T, I wish I could write like her one day. It's one of the best hanfics out there and I recommend it to everyone.
Rate out of ten: 9.5[6]
Ahh, the almighty Llamaesque, founder of h.fiction.... Beautifully written long fiction ("A glint of Heaven"), and stand out short pieces (especially "All we do is say goodbye" and "Where you find it")[7]
