Reactions and Reviews
2006
[Pieces]:I have been looking forward to reccing this story since the day I signed up to drive the crack_van for Real Ghostbusters. It is probably my favorite story from one of my favorite RGB writers; and possibly my favorite story in all of RGB fandom. There is so much to recommend it (in addition to its overall brilliance): its unconventional epistolary style which effectively captures the personality of each character; its complex, almost experimental plot; and the depth and intensity of its emotion. I find this fic - as I do much of [livejournal.com profile] xparrot's fiction - immensely cathartic; I cried genuine tears while reading it and at more than one point, had to put down the zine it originally appeared in ("Ghostwriters") to compose myself before continuing. A caution: while the first line is certainly jarring, do not be frightened away by it. KEEP READING. Trust me. The dark ride is worth it and the resolution, perfect. [1]
2000
A fan reviewed this zine on her own website in mid-June 2000. The review was less than positive regarding the formatting, and perhaps other things. In a long thread on RGBFanfic, the editor requested that the reviewer remove the review from the website. While reviewer disagreed with this demand (as did a number of other fans), the review was removed.[2]}}
Perhaps it was wrong of me to post a review I had written off the cuff without having the zine in front of me. I did neglect Emilie Karr's wonderful story PIECES, and Robyn Thurman's interesting ABSOLUTION, but in all honesty, the format problems were so overwhelming that I thought they were the most important things to mention, even above good stories.I make no bones about my biases. That way people with my biases will find stories they like, and people who have the opposite biases will look at my reviews and know what will not agree with them.
Nor is there anything stopping anyone from putting up their own review site. I wish someone else would, in fact. Opinions that differ from mine can only help this fandom. [3]
2001
It can be tricky to read if you have poor eyes, like I do. Oh, but it's well worth the read. There is some absolutely incredible fic in this zine. [4]
