Gap: The Series is a Thai girls' love romantic comedy adapted from the novel of the same name. The story focuses on "Sam" Samanan Anantrakul and "Mon" Kornkamon Phetpailin.

When they were children, Sam came to Mon's aid by stopping a car from backing into her. From then on, Sam became a role model and idol of Mon's, and so, when Mon graduates, she decides to apply for a job at Sam’s company.

Sam is distant and cool when they meet which surprises Mon, who had hoped for a reunion of sorts. However, Mon gradually gets closer to Sam and Sam lets down some of her walls; as this happens, Mon's feelings of admiration and idolising become increasingly romantic. The series follows their developing relationship and the barriers they face.

The girls' love genre is generally a smaller market than boys' love and GAP was the first televised Thai GL show. Due to the huge popularity of the series, many people are optimistic that it will pave the way for the growth of the GL genre in TV.

With BLs (boy love) being accepted by the rest of the world, we are getting more representation as Gap: The Series marks a monumental step forward as the first mainstream GL (girl love) Asian drama. With a good plot and loveable characters, it is a lighthearted and fun Thai drama, with a budget to give fans an entertaining watch full of theme songs, symbolic outfits and romantic candle-lit scenes. It is also a reward for fans who have been there from the beginning and know the struggle the Gap project went through from radio silence for months to it almost getting cancelled and finally getting an air date a year later.

Gap: The Series Season 1 Review by Lopa K, Archived version

Even with what I saw, I still never would have guessed that GAP was ALL about Sam and Mon. A FULL Thai drama centered on a lesbian couple. That's amazing! Wow. Holy shit. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

And oh my God. It has ALL the tropes. ALL the trademark moments and beats you look for and ALL the characters you expect to see. Same treatment. Same style. A VERY popular plot (the noble/rich/upper class x commoner/middle or lower class romance).

What a time to be alive. 👍🏾

Fandom

Almost all the fan activity revolves around Mon/Sam, the core relationship of the series, though there is a small amount of fanworks focusing on the F/F pairing between Tee/Yuki.

There is also a reasonably sized fanbase around the RPF pairing of Becky Armstrong/Freen Sarocha Chankimha (who played Mon and Sam respectively).

There is a small fandom on Archive of Our Own with 411 works, with other sites like Wattpad and Asianfanfic having a smaller number of works as well. The show is more popular on social media sites, where GIF sets, digital manipulations, and fan art are popular.
