Florence Zimmermann is a main character in the YA novel The House with a Clock in Its Walls, its sequels, and the movie of the same name.

She is a witch and a close friend and neighbour of Jonathan Barnavelt and his nephew, Lewis Barnavelt.

In the novels, only a few facts about Florence's earlier life are mentioned while the film supplies her with a backstory that has very few roots in the source material. Some fans of the movie would like to know more about her life before she moved to New Zebedee:

i'd like to see Florence Zimmerman's backstory; what happened to her daughter? She had a husband, and Selena says that they "won't be killed" if The Clock works but...how did they die? Why did she survive?
I might turn this into a headcanon post but truly...what happened?
