Fanlore:Volunteers
Fanlore is a project of the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW). The OTW is a nonprofit organisation, founded by fans and staffed by fans working on a volunteer basis at all levels. Internally, it’s organised in ‘committees,’ which take care of different tasks — carry projects forward, consult with other committees, help the entire organization.
The Fanlore committtee team works on maintaining the fandom wiki http://fanlore.org, supporting its editors, promoting it and enforcing its policies. Internally, the Fanlore Committee consist of Gardeners, Graphic designers, Policy & Admin, and Social Media and Outreach, all of whom are volunteers.
Contributors and Advanced Editors are volunteering their time and effort to improve the Fanlore wiki but usually not part of Fanlore Committee.
Note: Users are people who read the wiki but do not contribute material. They may or may not use "talk" pages.
Roles & duties of wiki editors
The following tiers are available.
Contributors
Contributors (or: Editors) are users who register with an intent to edit existing or contribute new material to the wiki. They should adhere to the guidelines provided in order to maintain the wiki's policies, though they may have varying levels of involvement - they may sign up to correct a single page, or with the intent to frequently add/edit. Overall, these users:
- Create and add to pages with the intent to expand and improve the wiki
- Edit pages boldly with the good-faith intent to correct and improve the wiki
- Work with each other and admins to resolve disputes
- Employ user-collaborative knowledge building - editing in areas the user is familiar with, with the intent to improve the wiki
- Avoid disruptive editing (ref http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:DISRUPT)
- Accept and employ consensus-based decision making
Advanced Editors
Advanced Editors are experienced editors who have special editing privileges. They are authorized to move and delete pages on Fanlore. If you're an established Fanlore editor and are interested in Advanced Editor privileges, please contact us.

Gardeners
Gardeners monitor changes that occur on the wiki for their adherence to wiki policies, provide guidance for the contributors of those pages where necessary, and provide first-line support for users, especially new users (they are friendly and would like to help!)
Graphic Designers
Graphic Designers make up for the rest of us text-obsessed people by making badges for our editing challenges, banners, and other aesthetic and user experience updates for the site!
Policy & Administration
P&A Volunteers work on drafting Fanlore policies and documentation, and answering user requests such as the removal of fans’ legal names from wiki pages and complaints about its content. We also make plans for how to promote Fanlore, such as coming up with new events or social media content. P&A also encompasses a few intrepid volunteers who work exclusively on the technical side of Fanlore.
Social Media & Outreach
SM&O Volunteers manage Fanlore's social media accounts, monitor engagement stats, focus on how to recruit new editors, and amplify Fanlore's presence in the wider fandom-sphere. They also are major contributors to managing our Discord server.
