The_Gwyllion was interviewed in 2007 for the tenth in the Fanartist Focus interview series at Twinspiration, a Harry Potter LiveJournal community for James/Oliver and Fred/George twincest.

Introduction

Happy October, twinfans! This month's "Fanartist Focus" is proud to present the fabulously mischievous, seductively slashy Weasley twin creations of the_gwyllion! Gwyll's twinny artwork, along with that of glockgal and lizardspots was some of the first that I encountered in my foray into studying twin fanart, and it's also, I can honestly declare, some of the most memorable. You'll see below some of her practically legendary interpretations of Fred and George, and you'll doubtless recognize them; as they have been pilfered, praised, iconized and reposted all over the twinternet, from stem to stern. And there's a reason: her twins are SMOKING HOT! Her talents for gesture, conveying emotion and character, and expression within a composition are extremely admirable, and even if you don't pick up on that, she gets the "GUH!!!" factor of the Weasley twins, BIG TIME! SO without further pontification about the amazing talent and glory that is her Weasleys, petquality [mrsrittenrotten] is proud to present this month's interview with the FABULOUS the_gwyllion!

Excerpts

How did you first get interested in doing fanart in general, and slash/twincest art specifically?

I really can't remember....I guess I've been drawing fanart since I could hold a pencil. Watching so many cartoons and reading so many books during my childhood had been a starter. But after that, I took to drawing fanart even more seriously when I first learned that there were other fans out there like me. I'm not just the dork anymore! Lol! It was so embarrassing that I hid my drawings from my friends and family, thinking that it was just an obsession. :D Speaking of obsession, drawing slash art specifically is my reason to continue. I find it extremely enjoyable since I know I have people on the web to share your interests with, including with other artists like myself.

My favorite Weasley twins piece you did is undoubtedly the first one you ever did: with the wine, cigarettes and leather gloves. It is absolutely brain-meltingly hot! Can you elaborate a little bit about what was behind that particular artwork? The androgynous look, the pose, the totally bad-boy feel it has that leaves the viewer breathless?

Ooooh! Thank you! That first piece was actually an experiment. I was a newbie then, trying to squeeze myself slowly into the fandom. These are the times I'm glad on being a fashion illustrator...lol! Constantly drawing models got my mind down to drawing these two. There's just something about them that attracts me. Sure they're mischievous and playful, but there's certainly a kind of sexual appeal that I find alluring and attractive. And yes, these two are def bad boys. (Well...in my mind that is.) ;) And what goes with bad boys? Leather, wine and cigarettes! AHA!

Do you paint other twins or just Fred and George?

Oh yes.....before Harry Potter came along, there was Lord of the Rings. For those who know Elladan and Elrohir (Lord Elrond's sons), I use to draw them nonstop. :)

Your "Calendar Twins 2005" [New HP Art June 2005 Calendar] piece (the pic showcased at the start of this interview) seem so very true-to-canon, they are simply splendid. Which do you prefer to paint, mischievous twins who are truer to the original books, or slashy/twincesty twins who evoke all sorts of NON-CANON emotions in a viewer?

Thanks so much! I'm really glad to hear that. :) I'm def for the slashy/twincesty twin gods. Lol! I love playing around with these two. Sure, the books on them were great, but I like to push it up a bit and focus more on their playful sensuality. In my world, they simply reek of it! And I'm sure I'm not alone on thinking this. :)
