Fiendling was interviewed in 2007 for the eleventh in the Fanartist Focus interview series at Twinspiration, a Harry Potter LiveJournal community for James/Oliver and Fred/George twincest.

Introduction

Hello once more, twinfans! This month petquality [mrsrittenrotten] is happy to present an interview with the talented artist fiendling! fiendling has done a good deal of fanart in the HP slash fandom, and while there aren't a great number containing our heroes, Fred and George, the ones she created that DO feature them are so lovely, well executed and downright sizzling, that she simply had to be included in this year's twincesty fanart interview series. I knew as soon as I saw her interpretation of the boys that she GETS IT, and I think you'll dig her, too. How did you first get interested in doing fanart in general and slash/twincest art specifically?

I've always been drawing fanart. Back in the day when I liked anime, I drew a lot of anime fanart, and if I roleplayed I would draw 'characters' and such. How did I get into Harry Potter fanart? When I joined livejournal, I was randomly friended by someone in fandom who was a writer. I was a fan of the books, but never considered fanfiction about it, though I'd been an avid reader of fanfiction from other sources for some time. This particular writer would talk about it every now and then, and I was so astounded that I asked her to share some fics. I thought they were HILARIOUS. I shared them with my friends and we cackled over them. But then I started reading more... and more... and eventually became addicted. Then I started my first year of college, a lonely one in which I spent most of my time at my computer in my dorm room... and I would read fanfiction for hours. I saw the fanart posted on hpart and such, and I found a fic I really liked. The author of said fic (cynical_terror who wrote "Freudian Slip") was looking for a fanartist, and I thought... woo why not! So... that's how it started :P It just went on from there. The twins came eventually... I had never drawn them, and when a friend requested them, I went for it!

What are some of your main goals when painting twincest pieces? Do you have any problems or preferences you notice while you are creating your art?

Though I haven't done much twincest art, I would say it is making the characters look like twins while looking like themselves. I'm not sure how well I accomplished this. I can make them look like each other, but I never tried very hard to differentiate between them. I kind of like thinking of them as one person, I guess! So when looking at my twincest, one can be Fred... or that same one can be George. I don't think it really matters. Should it? gah!

Who are your favorite characters to paint, if not the twins?

LUCIUS! I love drawing him! :D I think it's just my ultra manly image of him with his long gorgeous blond hair and awesome eyebrows and manly cheek dimples. He's just really fun to draw (: My second choice would be Harry... Who doesn't like drawing Harry? It's always the best moment when you draw in the scar and glasses, and it's suddenly him. Third choice is Dobby (or any house elf really) - he's just hilarious to draw, and when I want to do something silly he's perfect for it and makes everyone happy.

Might you do more twincest fanart in the future?

Sorry... but probably not, since I'm almost out of fandom *sob* I miss you all so much. If I were to draw any more fanart in the future, it would probably be some good ole Harry/Lucius. :P
