1989
This has everything I hate in a K/S story; Kirk is sexually involved with another man; Spock is on the periphery; neither is on the Enterprise. However, this story is so powerfully written that it stays with you long after you've finished it. It is difficult for alternate universe stories to stay true to the characters, but this one does. It was titled, "part one," and, much as I dislike the premise, I'm looking forward to part two. [1]
