Eye of Orion was a fan-oriented con with an art show, dealer's room, panel discussions, and video room.

1993

The highlights of the convention for me were the seemingly unlimited store of recollections by guest fan/pro/artist/designer/mimic/raconteur Larry 'The Doctor' Stewart; the great TARDIS, console room, K-9 and the Dalek replica models, the 'audience participation' for the costume contest, the musical Doctor Who parodies by Sylvia Fisher and Diane Sankey, Larry Stewart improvising on the church organ, the first 'Psirens" episode from series six of Red Dwarf and the first two episodes of the 'Paradise of Death' Doctor Who radio play in the BBC One video room, and, of course, the DWIN:What is it?' panel entertainingly attempting to define the undefinable [1]

I am writing this article to thank the organizers of Eye of Orion 2 for putting on such a fabulous show on Saturday, October 22, 1994. I and fellow Lost Tribe of Mondas member Dan Kukwa has an enjoyable time, as did the other attendees (over 85 in number), we are sure. The only thing missing was the Blue Jays playing the deciding game of the World Series. Once again, the venue proved excellent, and we look forward to coming to St. Mark's and the Epiphany church again next year. We appreciated the variety of programming, including two video rooms, a cozy dealer's room, and a spacious main hall. We especially enjoyed Larry Stewart, the guest, who is a boon to any convention. We would like to thank the convention volunteers, including security members, gophers, and the organizers themselves, for making sure that everything went smoothly (at least, everything that we managed to see). One comment we could make, however, was slightly tighter control on the panels, especially the one which went over 20 minutes and almost shouldered out the fan fiction panel, but on the whole, everything was fine.[2]

Reactions and reviews

To illustrate my admiration for the organizers of Primedia and Eye of Orion in putting on a great show on the weekend of November 2nd. Most, if not all, of these people have lives of their own, and, yet somehow, they are able to find the time to dedicate so much effort towards organizing this event which much joy to those who attended. It speaks volumes to their dedication, if not, perhaps, their sanity. But seriously, Eye of Orion and Primedia was a great show, highly enjoyable, and a credit to the organizers. Although I spent much of my time helping to man the DWIN table st Eye of Orion on Saturday, the Eye of Orion room was organized to give everyone, including the dealer tables at the back, a clear view of the proceedings. It was a cozy atmosphere, that really enhanced my enjoyment. I certainly appreciated hearing Yee Jee Tso speak -- he is a warm, personable young fellow, who connected well with the audience rather than standing aloof, as some guests (although, fortunately, only a few) do. It appeared that Yee Jee Tso was having as good a time as we were; he was certainly into the proceedings. Martin Proctor, the artist fan guest of honour, contributed a lot to the discussions and was always around to share conversation, and a pun or two. It is the coziness of Eye of Orion which is its greatest selling point, in my opinion. There was plenty of opportunity for everyone attending to ask questions of the guests, take pictures, or get their autographs, if they so chose.[3]
