Reactions and Reviews
When I started reading this, I thought it was something of an alternate universe story, since Spock's telling Kirk about the pon farr took place before the events that occur in "Amok Time". However, by the end of the story I had decided that it was only slightly A/U in nature, and it may be that the author didn't intend for it to be A/U at all, and I suppose a case could be made for that. This story presented an interesting conflict for Kirk and Spock to work through. The bulk of it consisted of good dialogue, warm, loving feelings, and a good utilization of McCoy. (I like it best when the doctor is helpful, but not intrusive, and this story handled him as such.) This story was also tightly written and moved very well. Its one major problem is that it ended too quickly. Granted, there wouldn't have been much point in the author re-telling the events of "Amok Time", but the ending did come off as a let-down after such an excellent, relatively lengthy buildup. Overall, an enjoyable read and a competent effort by a new author. [1]
