Tips for Writing

like i’ll have a vague concept i know i want to hit but then i’m left with a collection of scenes that don’t really have a strong thread.

it may really help you to read a bit about story structure if you haven’t already as it can really help with these sorts of writing slumps and not knowing how to connect things! Once you understand what the general framework should look like, the puzzle pieces fall into place

like with pacing, there actually are general marks you should be hitting with your plot points.. like your inciting incident should hit around 10% mark, 1st plot point 30% etc. so it can give you a general idea of pacing

of course it’s very flexible and more a tool to help than a strict guide but fic writers use 3 act structure allll the time without realizing it, so there’s a likelihood you’re writing within this structure subconsciously because it’s a natural way to storytell

And with filler scenes, I think once you start viewing them as your action vs. reaction scenes and see how they should go back and forth with each other it’s easier to figure out where the “filler” goes and what purpose each reaction scene should serve narratively...
