-Shipping Name Origin

"KalaShipping" has been in use since at least 15 November 2016[1], becoming their most common -shipping name by 2017. However, this is not considered their "official" ship name on the Neverending Romance ship name list, considered the masterlist for all Pokémon ships ever conceived. Sometime between the beginning of November and 31 December 2016, SunnySurfingShipping was coined for the list, a name rarely, if ever, used by shippers.[Notes 1] KalaShipping conflicts with the pairing name for Dialga/Mewtwo, which was named KalaShipping as well prior to it being used for Elio/Hau. Thus, it cannot be considered official unless it becomes so for both pairings, which is likely to happen in the future as of 2025.

Other lesser-used names include AlolarivalShipping[1] and HaulShipping[1], both largely seeing use only prior to 2017. The portmanteau Hausun is also popular.
