I received Eagle: 1. I liked Duck:1999 and enjoyed the quiz. First issues are always a little disappointing. I understand your difficulties and I thought it was pretty good for a first attempt. I'm looking forward to issue #2.

I am enclosing a $6.00 money order for a year's subscription to Eagle:1, it is an excellent fanzine. The next issue sounds even more interesting. Your cover is very good and I'm very interested in seeing your next issue's cover. It would be nice, though, to have a bit of background. Considering it is your first effort at producing a fanzine, you did an excellent job. And I agree with you 100% in thinking it's fairly good. The fanzine isn't priced that high for the work you must have put into it... Thank-you very much.

Issue 2

Eagle: 1 2 has a cover that features Dr. Helena Russell.

Issue 3

Eagle: 1 3 was published in September/October 1977 and contains 24 pages. Its cover features Maya. There are two interior illos, both by Craig Duckworth.

The editor included this: "As most of you know I have been printing articles in past issues. I will probably continue to do so in the future issues also. I must state now that all reprinted articles are not intended to infringe on anyones' rights. They are strictly for my readers' enjoyment."

From the editorial:

Welcome to the third of what I hope will be many enjoyable and helpful issues of "the fanzine for Space:1999 fans"...Eagle:1. For a while, I thought the project was going to be impossible, what with the high printing costs, shortage of contributors, and all the regular fanzine problems. But I've finally got this ish ready for the printer. However, the toll in retyped pages, blunted ego, and nervous exasperation has been tremendous. You know, I said to myself, "If all those other people can put out fanzines, why can't you?," I said. "It can't be that hard," I said. Ha! After putting the first, second, and third issues to bed, I realize I have made a lot of mistakes which are much too late to correct. So please bear with me while I run through the usual gamut of mistakes that plague the fan publisher trying to learn his skills. Future issues will be better.

As you can see, with this issue I have decided to space lines closer. I've had many requests to do this, but while I find this extremely untidy looking I am bending to your wishes. I hope you appreciate this move as I am now able to squeeze more words onto a single page. I've also received quite a few letters from readers which state how much they enjoyed last issues' photo section, and because of these letters I've decided that each issue will contain one or more 1999 photos. I'd appreciate it if you would write in to let me know what kind of photos you'd like to see.

About our cover,..as you will probably have noticed (the more intelligent ones), this issue's cover depicts Maya, who is imaginatively portrayed by Catherine Schell. Past covers depicted Commander John Koenig and Dr. Helena Russell. Future covers will portray each of the 1999 regulars plus one special regular...the Eagle. Any good art that is sent in will be used.

Issue 6

Eagle: 1 6 was published in July/August 1978 and contains 30 pages.

The editor, Curtis, writes an enthused short report of going to his first con. He promises that issue seven of this zine will contain many con reports. An excerpt:

Well, I've finally scraped up enough money to get this overly large issue you now have in your hands, printed up and mailed out. I'd like to thank everyone for being so patient, but the Con practically wiped me out money-wise. I'm sure you'll forgive me for being so late with this issue as I know your anger will be appeased when you finish reading it. It is approx 10 pages longer than usual and contains much new, original material, a lot of which I'm sure you'll enjoy!

Many of you were turned on to 1999 because of it's hardware and technical aspects and we realize this. It is for this reason that we've added still another new editorial column. It is being written by Dean Godin (a fellow Maritimer) and he should be able to answer many of the questions you've been forwarding to me (yes, we fanzine publishers don't know everything!). This issue also contains our usual pack of great material and a few extra surprises. I hope you enjoy it but the best way you can show your appreciation is by subscribing.

As I write this, it's just been a few days since the end of the Space:1999 Convention '78 and I must say that it was nothing short of fantastic! I guess I should also tell you that it was the first Con I've ever attended so I don't really have anything to compare it to. Nonetheless, it was still excellent and for those of you who'd like to hear more about it, be sure to order our next issue (7) which will be a special double-sized issue entirely devoted to coverage of the Con.
