Distant Snores was a Starsky & Hutch-themed con skit written by Paula Smith.

It was a takeoff on the zine Distant Shores and encompassed references to fanon and fandom

The play was performed at ZebraCon in 1991.

The author of the original work the skit satirized, April Valentine, wrote: "And I also want to say lhat I adored Paula Smith's version, "Distant Snores", the musical. I've never been spoofed before. " [1]. Valentine also reprinted the script in her zine, The Fix #11 (1992), and said: ""Distant Snores" - which was presented at ZCon in October. I'm not sure what piece of fan fiction it's based on... Actually, I do. Thank you, Paula. I've never been spoofed before. It's an honor I think."

The script was also printed in Play by Playbook: Collected ZebraCon Plays (1995).

From Paula Smith:

For the first time on this or any other stage, Starsky was played by a man. What a concept. I don't know, though, if that fact made things easier or harder on the mundane bartenders who were also in the room during the show. In general, the better written the original, the funnier the parody I can make out of it, because there are more "hooks" for me to hang my so-called plots from. So if you're an author and I've never parodied one of your stories — SHAPE UP! [2]

"Distant Snores." A fun read, with one of the best lines of all time.: "You were dead but now you're better." [3]

"Distant Snores." I'll never forget the ZCon this was performed at. Nice to see it published here so I can laugh again. [4]
