It was published in the print zine First Time #52.

Summary

"Their relief at Spockʼs aborted pon farr is short lived after Kirk turns up missing and Spock discovers that the link they shared has turned into a mating link."

Reactions and Reviews

A solid, fast-paced story with a really good series feel, like the episode “Friday’s Child”.

Spock is not yet over the effects of his protracted pon farr, and before he learns that Kirk is still alive, he contemplates suicide. Spock’s growing pon farr forms the background to the main story of Kirk crashing his shuttlecraft on an unknown planet inhabited by primitive tribes. I happen to be an aficionado of this scenario, especially when it involves fierce warriors and hot sex. After being rescued by the chieftain’s son, Kirk has the choice of mate or die a horrible death, Hmmm...which one? There’s also a good villain—the doctor/healer of the tribe—not a nice person. He assaults Kirk and then threatens him. Meanwhile, back at the Enterprise, Spock’s pon farr is building and he knows he must find Kirk or die because there’s a link between them. Ndrul, the chieftain’s son, comes onto Kirk. It’s so refreshing that Kirk is not in the least bit traumatized—he’s experienced sexually and Ndrul is gorgeous and sexy. It’s a dirty job, but somebody’s got to do it. Very sexy scene—and I love the outfits: “soft boots and rough-sewn pants” and laced-up vests with glistening bare chests. And of course, my favorite—naked in firelight. Very cool—at the moment of orgasm, Kirk cries Spock’s name and Spock senses it and realizes that he and Kirk are linked. He also realizes he knows where Kirk is. All the scenes of Spock fighting for control and sporting an uncontrollable erection while he commands the Enterprise are very cool. The scenes Spock has with McCoy are particularly well done. The climax (if you will) is the ritual Hunt in which Ndrul and Spock are the hunters and Kirk is the prize. I really liked all this part—hunting for Kirk, Spock’s pon farr craziness, and the bad guy trying to kill everyone.

Good clear dialogue (which I greatly appreciate) completes this story that I really enjoyed.[1]

"Destiny's Way" by Jennifer Andon is a 38 page story, the longest one in FIRST TIME 52. After "Amok Time" Spock is having a hard time adjusting. Kirk is ordered to go to Altair (where he was originally supposed to go before he diverted the ship to Vulcan), and Spock is ordered to go with the Enterprise to help with a plague on Beta Organi III. They will reunite at Starbase 45.

Somehow Kirk's shuttle to Starbase 45 never gets there (it crashes), and he ends up on a primitive planet with Ndrul who wants to claim him as his mate. Kirk accepts Ndrul as his lover. His problem is that another native, Mrong, also wants him. Spock is still struggling with the effects of the Pon Farr fever and now discovers he is linked to the captain and through this link now knows that Kirk lives. And through the link he finds him. Mrong tries to cause trouble as Spock says Kirk is his and Ndrul seems willing to give him up. It is decided that whoever wins a hunt will have Kirk. And I'm not going to give away what happens next, but I will say that Mrong is the villain in the story.

I think this is a well written exciting story. I tend to like Kirk as slave stories, to be honest. I'm recommending this story. There's plenty of action in this story and some nice sex. [2]
