Excerpts

What was your first experience with MFU?

VERY first was a lecture by an ex-boyfriend on where Megatron's shape came from (Transformer, becomes an UNCLE gun). But I didn't watch until after I ran out of Sapphire and Steel when, looking for pictures of Joanna Lumley on tumblr, I came across fuckyeahdavidmccallum, which had this picture of Illya looking like a lost puppy. I went on YouTube looking for fanvids, then I just tracked down the whole show and went on a binge watching binge at an average of 3-4 episodes a day.

The Reunion Movie, waste of celluloid or salvageable?

Salvageable. The writing sucked, but elements of the premise are brilliant. I can see why Illya and Napoleon would exchange interests in one another's absence, I can see why UNCLE would have lost its shine after Seven Wonders of the World, why THRUSH had fallen so low in intellectual resources that it hinged on one man. But you don't put UNCLE agents in powder blue jumpsuits, no. You don't make the new kids complete idiots. No. You don't go to the trouble of giving your old agents new backgrounds if they never use their new skills at all. NO.

What are your half dozen favorite MFU fanfic stories that you would take to a desert island with you for the weekend, same for episodes?

The Rainbow Affair, The Pomegranate Affair, The Boys From Berlin, Impediments, Safe Harbor, The Better Gadget Affair, aw damn that's six already. Okay, episodes I've been missing... Fiddlesticks, Brain Killer, Birds and Bees, Sort-of-Do-It-Yourself-Dreadful, Foreign Legion? (Been a while but I like Barbara), hmm maybe The Maze Affair because William Marshall.
